As we’ve previously mentioned, we want to assure you we are closely monitoring the developing tariff situation and are in regular communication with our toy suppliers. As of now, we know that SSM received three containers of toys that were subject to new tariffs this week, and they have adjusted their pricing accordingly as of Monday. A & A has also received some containers this week that were tariffed (including bouncy balls) so some of their toy prices have been increased while most others still remain at pre-tariff prices.
All suppliers have continually said they will only increase prices on specific toys impacted by the tariffs. Fortunately, most still have significant pre-tariff inventory available—but we do not know how long that will last. Our best advice at this time is for each of you to stock up as much as your budget and space allow in order to secure current pricing before any additional increases go into effect.
We are optimistic these tariffs will be short-lived. In the meantime, know that both our suppliers and major toy companies, like Mattel and Hasbro, are actively pursuing tariff exemptions for toys. That would be wonderful but we have no idea if it will happen.
Should we reach a point where we must begin purchasing toys at higher, tariff-affected prices, we have prepared a letter you can personalize and use to inform your locations of a temporary tariff fee that will be added to each invoice. We will provide that letter once we have clearer information on actual cost increases. Once the tariffs end and our pricing returns to normal, our tariff fees will also end.
Please do not send any notices of potential price increases to your locations until you are truly paying more for your toys. We hope you can have enough pre-tariff inventory on hand to avoid sending these notices for as long as possible. It’s important to remain transparent and ethical in our business practices (while also remaining calm and optimistic), and we discourage charging a tariff fee while still supplying toys purchased at pre-tariff rates.
We’ll continue to keep you informed as we learn more.
